NIMC Rebrands
March 24, 2023The NI Museums Council was established in 1993 to support local museums (i.e. non-national museums) in Northern Ireland in maintaining and improving their standards of collections care and service to the public. During 2021 we developed a new Corporate Plan spanning 2022-2025, titled ‘Museums at the Heart’, and this process highlighted major issues with our current branding.
In 2022 we started working with a local branding team (Bag of Bees) to undertake a thorough identity review which would inform a brand strategy and lead to the development of a completely refreshed visual identity.
Our new brand expresses the theme ‘Stronger Together’.
Every member museum will be stronger when support, standards, and knowledge are shared. The programmes we support drive transformation, engage audiences and encourage sustainable spaces. Our brand should reflect this.
Our logo represents a Council (a ‘C’) which is made up of lots of individual Museums (‘M’). It is a dynamic and impactful symbol which, when coupled with a vibrant palette of warm colours, portrays a forward-thinking modern organisation. Below are a few behind-the-scenes images from the development process, showing our new design system as it came together from sketch to final artwork.
We would like to thank our staff, our board and stakeholders for engaging in the process in such a positive manner. We would also like to thank Robyn Scott for her hard work on the outreach sessions and identity review, along with the team at Bag of Bees for approaching the project with enthusiasm and dedication. Finally, a big thank you to the Department for Communities, which funded the brand redesign and website development projects.
We would love to hear your thoughts.
