December 19, 2025Call for Expressions of Interest – Security Reviews 2025/26
Background
NI Museums Council (NIMC) plans to commission a limited number of security reviews at local (non-National) museums in NI to support Accreditation standard Section 3.2 A Risk Assessment of Security Arrangements, and to strengthen museums’ readiness for loans, Government Indemnity Scheme (GIS) participation, and risk-based collections care. Reviews will provide proportionate, pragmatic recommendations to enhance protective security (physical, technical and operational).
Eligibility
Expressions of interest are welcomed from Accredited and Working Towards Accreditation status local (non-National) museums based in NI, who have not received a NIMC funded Security Review in the last four years.
What NIMC will provide:
NIMC have secured budget to enable us to provide selected museums with the following:
An on-site security review by experienced cultural protection consultants, culminating in a concise report that sets out observations, risks and prioritised recommendations (with indicative cost bands where possible).
The review will include a desk-based document review, a site visit (including external and internal spaces), and a feedback session on initial findings before a final report is issued.
What museums need to commit to:
If selected your museum needs to commit to the following for delivery of the project:
Provide pre-visit documents (e.g. site plans, existing risk assessments/policies, incident logs) as requested; host an on-site visit (daytime and, if relevant, out-of-hours); and nominate a lead contact to coordinate logistics.
