Museums & the Law: EU Imports and Martyn’s Law
Online EventBriefing session on the implications of the EU import of cultural goods regulation and The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 as it will apply to Northern Ireland.
EU Import of Cultural Goods Regulation & Northern Ireland
From 28 June 2025, you may require an import licence or importer statement to import cultural goods from non-EU countries, including Great Britain.
This regulation applies to goods created or discovered outside the EU/Northern Ireland, depending on age, value, and category and Arts Council England (ACE) will act as the UK competent authority for Northern Ireland.
Karl Jagdis will join us from DCMS to cover the new regulations and how it applies to Northern Ireland. This session is free for NIMC members, including those who work at organisational members.
The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, also known as Martyn’s Law
Named after Martyn Hett, who was killed in the Manchester Arena attack, the Act requires those responsible for certain premises and events consider how they would respond to a terrorist attack.
Stephen Humphries will join us from National Museums NI to cover what the law is, what local museums need to be aware of and how NMNI are preparing for it.
