Join the NI Museums Council (NIMC) for the next online LET’S TALK session where we discuss current and upcoming topics for the NI museums sector.
Speakers
Representatives from National Museums NI will cover the Folk Museum redevelopment and how that project fits with the wider approach to interpretation in priority projects and initiatives across our museums. They will share their learnings and experiences of interpretation and discuss the common themes of diversity and inclusion, co-curation and multiple perspectives .
Margaret Edwards is Project Manager at the Derry ~ Londonderry on the North Atlantic (DNA) Museum. Margaret will be sharing their experiences of developing a new museum which is planned to open in 2026. They will discuss their journey, designs and plans for what is next.
Lar Joy is Port Heritage Director at Dublin Port and Chair of the Irish Museums Association (IMA). Lar will discuss the heritage activities at Dublin Port and the works planned following the launch of their new conservation strategy.
In ‘PLANNING TO SNAGGING: THE NEW PERTH MUSEUM, PERTH, SCOTLAND’ Dr Mark A Hall will provide a brief introduction to the project that has created a new museum in Perth, for Perth & Kinross and which opened to the public on 31 March 2024. It will touch on aspects of history, collections, architecture, economy, politics, public value, making, colonialism and collaboration.
Dr Mark A Hall is a Collections Officer at Perth Museum and Art Gallery (managed by Culture Perth & Kinross on behalf od Perth & Kinross Council) and has a long experience of curating archaeological and historical collections. He contributes to Scottish museum and archaeology policy initiatives (including Treasure Trove, the Scotland’s Archaeology Strategy, Scottish Archaeological Research Frameworks, human remains and cultural returns) and is a widely published researcher of early and late medieval material culture, play in the past and cinematic retellings of the past.
