Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI)
MoLI is called a ‘museum of literature for the worlds greatest storytellers’ and hosts an interactive celebration of Irish poets, playwrights and novelists. In 2023 MoLI won a Europa Nostra prize for Citizens’ Engagement & Awareness-raising. The award recognizes outstanding heritage-led projects which foster social cohesion, inclusion, multicultural dialogue and understanding, nurture a sense of place and belonging, celebrate diversity and multiple identities as well as stimulate citizens’ engagement, ownership and civic responsibility. The judges commented on the work done by MoLI to engage with young people and address their declining interest in literature.
During our visit, delegates will be given a tour of the museum before visiting the LitLab to hear about the work of the Learning Department.
Kilmainham Gaol
Kilmainham Gaol opened in 1796 and has held thousands of men, women and children for crimes that ranged from minor offences to being involved in some of the most momentous events in Irish history.
Delegates will be given a tour of the Gaol by Brian Crowley, Curator of the collections at Pearse Museum and Kilmainham Gaol before visiting the temporary exhibitions “‘hearts ne’er waver’: The Women Prisoners of the Irish Civil War” and “Voices”, an exhibition by artist Margo McNulty inspired by the Civil War women prisoners.
