Creating Family Friendly Museums
Online EventCreating Family Friendly Museums – Afternoon Cuppa Session
Training Overview
Join us for an informal virtual briefing and discussion session to help you think about low and no cost changes you could make to enhance your museum’s family provision using the Kids in Museums Manifesto.
The Kids in Museums Manifesto is a set of simple guidelines for museums, heritage sites and cultural organisations created with children, young people and families. It sets out what they feel makes a heritage site a great place to visit.
You can find out about our Kids in Museums Manifesto Self-Assessment Tool, which can support you to do a light touch self-audit of how well your museum or heritage site meets our Kids in Museums Manifesto. The Kids in Museums Manifesto Self-Assessment Tool is particularly aimed those with limited budgets.
You can also hear a case study from the winner of the Best Accessible Museum and overall winner of the Family Friendly Museum Award 2023 – Craven Museum, Skipton. They will talk about how they have used the Kids in Museums Manifesto to shape the family friendly provision at the museum.
What to expect
In this session, we will:
- provide a range of practical ideas to inspire your family friendly provision
- share how your organisation can use the Kids in Museums Manifesto Self-Assessment Tool to improve your family offer
- create opportunities for attendees to informally share more about their current family offer and how they can put ideas from the session into practice.
Trainer
This session will be delivered by Laura Bedford, Head of Programmes at Kids in Museums, and supported by Jenny Hill, Lead Museums Curator, Craven Museum in Skipton Town Hall (winner of the Family Friendly Museum Award 2023).
