Our Staff and Board

Johnathan is the Director of the NI Museums Council. He has previously worked in private and public sector research and education, and has coordinated large multinational research projects, and national statutory programmes for numerous stakeholders spanning the private, public and third sectors. In his previous role as Head of Branch in the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute, he was responsible for a large team spanning multiple sites, and with a remit including expert input to national policy, stakeholder engagement and advocacy. Prior to that, as a Senior Lecturer and Director of Education at Queens University Belfast, he coordinated and taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, and lead an independent research team. He also chaired a diverse portfolio of committees, and contributed to strategic management at the level of school and faculty. Johnathan is a current member of the National Trust NI Regional Advisory Group, and has served as trustee for a number of national and international learned societies. He has also fulfilled editorial roles for a range of international research publications, and has consulted for organisations including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and UK Research and Innovation.

As Business Executive Officer of NI Museums Council, Karen is responsible for all organisational and administrative support to the Council’s staff and Board of Directors. She is responsible for maintaining and monitoring the Council’s operational procedures and information systems as well as administering various initiatives particularly the grant and training schemes. Karen ensures the smooth running of the office and undertakes various projects.

As Development Officer Eva works on delivering strategic development initiatives and expert support to local museums across Northern Ireland who are participating in the UK Museum Accreditation Scheme. She administers the accreditation scheme and grant funding programmes, and also supports the sector with training, expert advice and promotion. Previously, Eva worked in Visitor Services at the Ulster Museum, Mount Stewart and National Museum of Ireland. She has an MA in Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies.

As Development Officer (Education and Outreach) Catherine provides advice and support to local museums to strengthen their reputation and capacity as centres of learning, education and outreach. She assists local museums to maintain and improve their standards and is responsible for assessing sector needs, providing training and co-ordinating projects and funding applications. Previously Catherine worked for the NI War Memorial, National Museum of the Royal Navy, Historic Environment Division and PRONI.
