Date: Tuesday 29 September 2020, 2:15pm-3:45pm

Title: Future Museums: Recovery & Renewal

Spilling the Beans is an annual event that offers the Northern Ireland museum sector an opportunity to reflect on sectoral issues and share learning.  This year we are going online with a slightly different format.

2020 has been an exceptional year for everyone.  The COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges for each of us personally and professionally.  The museum sector is navigating its way through these difficult times.  Some museums have reopened their doors to the public, others are struggling to re-open with the current social distancing measures, and for some re-opening is not financially viable.

So, what does the future hold for museums?  The NI Museums Council is delighted to welcome three speakers who will present different perspectives.  This session will take the form of three short presentations followed by a Q&A and discussion.

Presenters will be:

Sharon Heal, Director, UK Museums Association

“Brave new world – thinking about the future of museums”

Paul Allison, Museums Service Manager, Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum

“Sorry, We’re too busy fighting alligators to drain the swamp”

Jenny Haslett, Museum Manager, Northern Ireland War Memorial

“Listening, adapting and engaging; remaining relevant and accessible in extraordinary times”

Format: Microsoft Teams

Start time: 2:15pm

Finish: 3.45pm
