Recent training undertaking by NI Museums Council and local museum staff
12 February 2020
Recently NI Museums Council, alongside colleagues from the local museum sector, undertook face-to-face JAM card training with NOW Group. NI Museums Council is recognised as JAM Card friendly. This is an important step towards increasing accessibility and inclusivity in the museum sector. JAM card is a communication aid for those who need a little more time to process information or to communicate, such as those living with hidden disabilities, learning disabilities and communication barriers. Becoming JAM card friendly supports access projects such as Dementia Friendly Museums which NI Museums Council is coordinating.
JAM Card stands for Just a minute and has been developed by NOW Group a social enterprise supporting those with learning disabilities and autism into employment. The card was designed by service users as a discreet way to tell people they need a little extra time and patience.
