Using Visuals and Makaton to Communicate in Museums

A successful session took place with Autism NI and Robinson Makaton Training

Staff from the local museum sector were introduced to  a range of visual communication strategies which can be used to support visitors with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  In the afternoon staff tok part in a Makaton taster session.  this session introduced through practical activities 20 general and 10 museum specific signs and symbols.  Participants felt equipped to begin to consider ways to apply their learning to their museum settings to improve access.
