In 2011, the programme provided an opportunity for 12 trainees to enhance and develop practical skills within museums collections care, research and interpretation in Northern Ireland. Each trainee received formal training, coaching and completed a project at their host museum.
The twelve trainees were Nicola Farrell, Deborah McAdam, Shane McGivern, George Hutton, Kathryn Foster, Sarah Bolan, Kerill Winters, Rosita Quinn, Laura Clydesdale, Anna Liesching, Clare Plascow and Fiona Byrne.
The host museums were Fermanagh County Museum, Derry Heritage and Museum Service, Mid-Antrim Museum, Causeway Museum Service, Newry Museum, Down County Museum, Ulster Museum, Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, Armagh County Museum and the Ulster American Folk Park.
After an intensive twelve months of training and hard work, the trainees on the first Collections Skills Initiative completed there programme and were able to celebrate their achievements with a special event held in Cultra Manor House on 2nd March 2012. Below are some photographs from the event.
We would like to congratulate each trainee on their successful completion of the programme and wish them all the best in their future careers.
You can read about the individual experiences of each of the 12 trainees in this Celebration Booklet.
