The Bronze Age in North Down

Key Stage Two North Down Museum

A new exhibition in North Down Museum tells the story of the introduction of metal into everyday life. From September 2013 school visits will be available to book a 2 hour workshop, which will allow children to discover how the first known settlers in this area lived.  The Bronze swords, found near Ballycrochan are an amazing legacy along with other artifacts from the surrounding area. A craft session will be part of the visit.  Children will be instructed in making a small cooking pot. The museum can accommodate 30 pupils for this workshop.

The tour will be tailored to the World Around us curriculum for KS2 (Early Man) and will look at the following areas:-

How and why natural resources shape life in an area.

The development of tools and weapons – what affect it had

Burial customs and beliefs

Bronze Age everyday life

The session will be active and hands-on including a craft activity. The workshop will seek to support the development of thinking skills and creativity.
