Strabane District Council established its Museum service in 1997. The core of the councils museum collection is formed by “The Dunbar Collection”. This is a collection which encompasses several collection areas such as photography, Victoriana, Militaria, fine arts and folklife.

The service has no display venue as such, but engages in active co-operation with school, community/history groups throughout the district.

Over the past year the service has helped produce an illustrated book on Strabane photographer Herbert Cooper, as well as an exhibition on the photography of fellow Strabane native R.J. Welch.

The Council are committed to the collection of material relevant to the history of this district and its people.
